Frequently asked questions
The card
Our signature card is solid metal with a matte black or brushed finish, laser-engraved with your details. We also produce laminated PVC cards for full-colour brands, and metal cards with an oversized engraved QR code.
No. Laser engraving marks the metal itself rather than sitting on top of it, so it will not wear away in a wallet the way printed ink on paper does.
It is about the thickness of two or three paper cards and noticeably heavier — which is rather the point when you hand it over. It sits in a normal card slot without trouble.
No. The NFC chip has no battery. It draws the tiny amount of power it needs from the phone during the tap itself, so there is nothing to charge or replace.
Yes — every card is laid out individually around your logo, name and title. Send us whatever artwork you have and we will tell you if it needs adjusting for engraving.
Compatibility
All iPhones from the iPhone 7 onwards, and every Android phone with NFC — which covers the overwhelming majority of handsets in use. Older phones use the engraved QR code instead.
No, and neither do you. NFC reading is built into the phone’s operating system. They tap, a notification appears, and your mini website opens in their normal browser.
They scan the QR code engraved on your card with the camera instead, and land in exactly the same place. Every card carries both.
Yes. NFC is a global standard and your mini website is on the open internet, so the card behaves identically anywhere with a phone signal or Wi-Fi.
The chip is locked after we encode it, so the link cannot be changed by another device. The card only ever sends out a public web address, so there is nothing sensitive on it in any case.
The mini website
It is a designed page that opens when someone taps your card — your photo, name, title, contact buttons, social links and services, with an Add to Contacts button that saves everything to their phone at once.
Your own subdomain in the form yourname.businesscontact.uk. It is yours, not a shared profile page with a long string of characters after it.
Yes. Every mini website comes with a simple login panel. Change your number, title, photo, services or social links whenever you like, from a phone or a laptop. The card never needs to change.
Your first year is free and included with the card. After that it is £20 per year, which covers hosting your mini website and your businesscontact.uk address. There is nothing else to pay.
The mini website is what your card points at, so it needs to stay hosted for the tap to work. If you would rather point the card at your own website instead, tell us and we can look at that.
Yes. It is a normal web address, so you can paste it into a message, an email signature or a LinkedIn reply. The person opening it gets exactly the same page.
Ordering
Your name, job title, company, the contact details you want shown, your social links, and your logo in the best quality you have. If you are missing something, we will work with what you send.
Always. We design the card and build the mini website first, then send both over for approval. Nothing is engraved until you have said yes, and changes at that stage cost nothing.
It depends mostly on how quickly the proof is approved. Once you approve, engraving and dispatch follow promptly — next-day delivery is available within the UK.
Yes. We produce matched sets with one consistent design, each card personalised to the individual and each with its own mini website. Pricing improves with quantity — get in touch for a team quote.
Yes, and many people do — a spare for the wallet, one for the desk. They can all point at the same mini website. Mention it when you order.
Delivery & returns
Across the UK and worldwide. Next-day delivery is available for UK orders once your proof is approved.
UK and international delivery is quoted with your order, since it depends on quantity and destination. It is confirmed before you pay, never added afterwards.
Because every card is engraved to order with your own details, personalised cards are not returnable in the way an off-the-shelf product would be. That is exactly why we send a proof first and do not engrave anything until you have approved it.
Contact us straight away at info@artorian.co.uk and we will put it right. If the chip does not read or the engraving is not as approved, we replace the card.
Get in touch as quickly as you can — if it has not reached the engraver we can usually still change it. Once it is engraved, the metal is fixed, although anything on the mini website can be corrected in seconds.
